The New Orleans Jump Band and the International Music Festival of Jimena have a close relationship since their appearance at the first edition in 2001, which was a delight and a surprise to the audience. Since then, they have been on stage (and on foot) several times – and always leaving a trail of good feeling behind them.
The band was formed by several expatriate Jazz musicians living in the South of Spain in 1980s: Michael John Izatt, Andrew Ian Peacok, Stewart Napier, Pedro Jonas Molbeck y Michel Louis Jansen, though, as with all such bands, their components ebb and flow according to needs. Their style is that of traditional Dixie music, born in New Orleans towards the end of the 19th century.
The New Orleans Jump Band fluctuates from a quartet to an octet. Their roots are in bars, restaurants and clubs on the Costa del Sol, expanding later to other venues in Spain and eventually to places like the UK, France, Belgium, Hungary and Gibraltar. Their weekly gig is at Rudi’s Restaurant, which has become a meeting place for musicians from all over the world.
Their sense of humour and an affectionate contact with the audience, combined with their famous street strut in the New Orleans band style, have made them a favourite entertainment at society weddings, corporate events and, of course, at music festivals.
