———-
Created in 1997 by leader Daniel ‘Mono Loco’ Carbonell, Macaco is a group from Barcelona that brings together musicans from Brazil, Cameroon, Venezuela and Spain. The mixture makes for a colourful melange with electronic Latin accents. They sing in Spanish, Portuguese, French, English, Catalan and Italian. As Macaco’s website says: Mixture is natural.
The aim at the group’s creation was to make music as cosmopolitan as the city in which it was founded. El Loco could already intuit that the future lay in muscal dialogue, a communion of words and sounds, of aromas and smells, of tastes and textures.
The international success of their earlier discs brought their style not only to Spain but also to France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland, Austria and Argentina, where they were also released.
Time has seen a fluidity of musicians come and go, each one leaving their footprint. Their talent has left the influences of Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Cameroon, Zimbabwe and, naturally, of Spain.

Having released discs almost every year since its inception, this year Macaco put out a video in collaboration with National Geographic. Called Moving, it contains appearances by such well known artists as Juan Luis Guerra and Juanes, and by actor Javier Bardem among others. They are scheduled to appear at the Olympic Stadium in Seville on June 19th.
